Joan is a fiber artist who exhibits nationally and internationally. She sells her wall art and hand dyed eco printed silk scarves in a number of galleries, artisan gift shops, and at local museum gift shops.

She has long been interested in all things fiber.  She loves the entire creative process involved in composing fiber art pieces using non-traditional methods and materials to achieve her artistic vision, most often inspired by nature and her original nature photography.

The surface design materials that I regularly work with on fabric include: foraged natural plant dye, fabric paint, rust dye, and my original digital images printed onto fabric. The quality and nature of color, and these processes on textiles can be quite different from these media applied to a prepared canvas. Once the fabric and composition is created, I enhance it with machine stitch and threads to create more texture and dimension. All of my fiber art pieces are to be displayed as wall art. Smaller pieces are usually framed. Sometimes my larger works are stretched over prepared canvas for hanging, but generally they are hung tapestry-like on walls, allowing viewers to closely examine and appreciate the textural nature of the work.  Much of my creative time is dedicated to eco printing botanical images onto natural fabrics like silk, cotton, and linen for scarves and wall art.
