As an observer of animals, nature and landscapes, my aim is to capture the light and mood of a scene, to capture the attitude of an animal, and to make the viewer stop and notice something that they might not otherwise see.  I paint mostly domestic animals because of the relationship we have with them, the way we put thoughts in their heads and heap personalities on them that may or may not align with the animal’s own reality.  I hope that when one looks at my paintings of animals, that they get the sense that the animal is studying the viewer just as keenly.
