Artist Statement:
Marcia Donofrio

I have been a resident of Chaplin, Ct for many years, working in the field of the relationship of body/mind, all the while following my creative impulses with paint, wood, and clay. My works are created from my love of the beauty and mystery of nature and my inquiries into the inner spiritual worlds, searching for that Venn interface of which art has such capacity to be a witness.

My work is eclectic, ranging from oil and acrylic, through the worlds of mixed media, and I especially enjoy the many facets of ceramic and wood sculpting. Although originally finding my way as a self taught artist, over the years, I have further developed my skills through training in a blend of varied art courses at ECSU, numerous art workshops, and many adventures of glitches and glories. “Plein Air has been especially humbling!”

Working from an inner lens, often I like to create images through the process of allowing the canvas to inform me. Thats where my imagination comes through. I feel my moonscape series, a mix of acrylic and mixed media, first gave me a sense of the juxtaposition of the seen and the unseen worlds. In that interface I also felt called to capture quiet meditative repose, witnessing the outer world in its stillness and beauty in relationship to the balance points of our outer lifescape. My creations speak of being in the earthly realm all the while entertaining the mystical.

I am ever emerging, but my mantra remains the same:
“deeply listen and learn to surrender”.
